Rouse Thailand has successfully registered the Thai Geographical Indication ‘Lamphun Brocade Thai Silk’ with the Geographical Indication Registry of India. Because the application faced various objections from the Registry, it took more than two years to obtain registration under the GI Act of India of 1999. This is the first Asian GI to obtain protection in India
Following that recent victory, Rouse Thailand was appointed by the Department of Intellectual Property of Thailand to apply for several Thai geographical indications in Japan. Country Manager Fabrice Mattei will meet the Ministry of Agriculture of Japan on 9 March to discuss protection of GIs in Japan.
