Rouse attends International IP Forum 2019 in Moscow

      Published on 01 Mar 2019 | 1 minute read

The annual International IP Forum took place in Moscow on 14 and 15 February. This year (which is the “Year of Theatre” in Russia) the Forum was focussed on the protection of rights connected with theatrical productions, especially in light of some recent changes to national legislation.

Amongst the sessions was a panel discussion on “IP in theatrical art”, which was moderated by the Chair of Russia’s IP Court. The panel discussed issues relating to the enforcement of the newly introduced laws regarding the exclusive rights of the directors of theatrical productions.

There was also a round table discussion on the development of Russian regional brands in light of the pending introduction into Russian law of the ability to protect Geographical Indications. During the Round Table there were extensive discussions on amendments to the draft law on Geographical Indications at its second reading in the Duma.

The IP Forum also included several events relating to practice and development of protection for authors, protection of patent and Trade Marks rights and developing IP in the digital age.

ROUSE was represented at the Forum by Trademark Attorney Andrey Cherkasov, who presented a report on the development of rules for dealing with administrative trade mark disputes in the Chamber of a Patent Disputes.  Andrey highlighted the key amendments, in particular the possibility to file electronically, to adduce additional evidence during proceedings, and to attend hearings by video conference, all of which are expected to greatly streamline proceedings and reduce cost.
