Webinar: Trade Mark Law Development in the Gulf Cooperation Council Region

      Published on 26 Oct 2023 | 1 minute read
Updates on key issues in this diverse and fast-moving region

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (“GCC”) comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.

The GCC Trade Mark Law was first approved by resolution of the Supreme Council of the GCC during the 27th meeting held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in December 2006. The GCC Trade Mark Law was not devised to create a system for a trade mark registration effective in all GCC countries. But does create uniformity in the laws and implementing regulations in each country; except, perhaps, in official fees.

Despite the existence of a unified GCC Law, individual countries in the region still apply different rules and have different practices. In this Lexology Masterclass, Mona Saleh and Elise Moine from Rouse in Dubai will take you through updates on key issues in this diverse and fast-moving region, its growing development and sophistication of local registrars’ systems and how they are moving toward online portals/services.
